Know your adviser's
conflicts of interest
before you sign.

An informed investor asks better questions.
We explain the regulatory filings and tell you what to ask.

Every adviser has conflicts. We grade how many.

The more search inputs you provide the better your search results.
We recommend searching for a specific adviser if you have their name, along with a firm name and/or a location.

The most common way to search. Also where most people stop.

Example search: fee-only advisor near me.

Every firm that scored an A is fee-only. Most fee-only firms did not score an A

12,328 firms pass every fee-only test. Fee-only describes how a firm is paid, not its conflicts. 1,559 scored an A

The usual model

Most "find an adviser" sites take your name, contact information, and account size. Then they sell that to advisers who pay for the lead. The adviser is the customer. You are the product. AdviserReport™ is different.

What we do instead

AdviserReport™ asks for nothing. There's no list to sell. We translate what every Registered Investment Adviser must disclose publicly into a report built for one job: putting the facts on your side of the table.

Why this matters

When you buy a used vehicle, or purchase a house, you expect a history report. You choose the report to read, not the report the seller picked for you. A relationship with a financial adviser is a multi-year, multi-thousand-dollar decision. You deserve a report that's built for you.

33,000+
investment advisory firms evaluated and graded.
20+
pages of disclosure per firm, minimum; we distill it for you.
$0
paid to us by any adviser or adviser firm for their grade. Ever.

How It Works

1

Search

Enter the name of your adviser, their firm, or a location. The more inputs you provide the better your search results. Select a single-firm report or "view advisers," scroll to find your adviser, then "get report."

2

Get Your Report

Purchase your report: single firm or firm + individual. No price difference between the two. If you know your adviser's name make sure you searched based on their name and that you verified their firm name prior to purchasing.

3

Read & Prepare

Understand the firm's transparency grade, where conflicts may exist, what to ask before you commit to them as a new adviser, or what questions to ask at your next meeting.

What Every Report Examines

Each AdviserReport™ evaluates how clearly a firm discloses the information you need, what conflicts may exist, and what questions to ask before you commit.

Firm Overview

Employees — assets under management — client focus — clients per adviser — average client size — services offered — possible compensation methods.

Compensation Structure

How the firm gets paid: fees, commissions, or both and how that might influence the advice you receive.

Brokerage & Trading Practices

Does the firm have proprietary or sales interests in your transactions? Is there discretionary authority? And how are brokers recommended?

Activities & Affiliations

Whether the firm is also a broker-dealer, has a broker-dealer affiliation, or has an insurance capacity. What does that mean for the standard of care owed to you?

Custody

How the firm handles your assets: does the firm, or a related entity, have legal control of your assets, or are assets held by an independent 3rd-party?

Disciplinary History

Any regulatory, criminal, or civil actions involving the firm or its principals? How does that compare to firms of a similar size?

Independent Information, Not Sales

No firm pays to be listed. No firm can buy a better grade. You pay for independent, conflict-free information. The way transparency should work.

No referrals. No spam or weird phone calls. Period. Personal information collected by us is only used to provide you with reports, or to help make this product better.
